The Heat-Storing Micro Gas Turbine—Process Analysis and Experimental Investigation of Effects on Combustion

Renewable energy sources such as wind turbines and photovoltaics are the key to an environmentally friendly supply. However, their volatile power output is challenging in regard supply security. Therefore, flexible systems with storage capabilities crucial for expansion of renewable since they allow storing off-demand produced reconverting supplying it on-demand. For this purpose, a novel plant concept presented where high-temperature (HTES) integrated between recuperator combustor conventional micro gas turbine (MGT). It used store times oversupply, which later reduce fuel demand during MGT operation. Hereby, pollutant emissions reduced significantly, while grid stabilized. This paper presents numerical process simulation study, aiming examine influence different temperatures load profiles HTES on performance (e.g., consumption, efficiency). Furthermore, relevant operating points parameters pressures, temperatures, mass-flow rates derived. As operation conditions strongly influenced by HTES, contains detailed theoretical analysis impact operability includes experimental investigation first design adapted compound tested under higher inlet conditions.
